Pinhole Surgical Technique

Chao Pinhole

At My Dentist in Grandview, we are committed to using state-of-the-art technology to provide our patients with the best experience possible. For those patients experiencing gum recession, we are proud to offer the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique.

Gum recession can be a result of periodontal (gum) disease, natural aging or rough teeth brushing habits. Since healthy gums are essential for a healthy mouth, it’s important that you treat gum recession before more problems arise.

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive option for treating gum recession. This breakthrough technique was created by Dr. John Chao. Our very own Dr. Brent is fortunate enough to have had training from Dr. Chao himself.

Unlike traditional grafting techniques used to treat gum recession, PST is incision and suture free. While traditional grafting is effective, similar results and an overall better patient experience is achieved with PST.

Often the most common question we receive is, how is this procedure performed? During the PST treatment, a needle is used to make a small hole in the existing gum tissue. Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to gently loosen the gum tissue. These tools help expand and slide the gumline over to cover the exposed root structure. This minimally invasive technique simply involves the adjustment of existing tissue.

Patients who have had PST treatment find there are many benefits. They include:

  • Less discomfort after treatment
  • Faster recovery than traditional grafting
  • No uncomfortable sutures
  • No use of scalpels or invasive tools
  • No need for donor tissue
  • Excellent, natural and long-lasting results
